DIY Window Films to protect privacy

Nowadays with limited land and space, the flat and houses are built close to each other, resulting in a lost of privacy for some residential property. Neighbour be able to overlook your kitchen, or even your bedroom due to the close distance between the houses. Our service yard area overlooked the corridor, so there is not much privacy.

We do not want to spend expensive money to change the clear window of the kitchen and so decided to DIY on the window films. They are easily to clean, removable and reuseable.

First we measured size of the windows we want to cover up, the length and breath are recorded down on a piece of paper, also jot down the number of pieces of window films we need. Then we go down to a DIY shop to have them take down our film's measurement and told them the number of pieces we need for the particular measurement, and they will cut the window films accordingly to our needs.

When at home, we get ready these items:- soapy utensil washing detergent, have it mixed it with water and pour the mixture into a spray bottle, a plastic window blade and a pen-knife.

Follow these steps as directed by the DIY shop owner :-
  1. Cleaned the window glasses. Spray the mixture content from the spray bottle on the entire window, to make it wet and slippery.
  2. Carefully moved the cut window film on the slippery glass to it exact location and position.
  3. Use the plastic window blade to adjust the film on the glass and to scrape off the bubbles downright under the film.
  4. A pen-knife may be necessary to trim off the little excess measurement of window film at the glass corner edge.
  5. And once done, let the window film dry up for awhile.
  6. Do the same steps from 1 to 5 doing the same for the next window glass.
